L’Oréal Casting Creme Gloss Hair Color in Mahogany 550 – Swatch & Review

A natural brunette with a penchant for red, what can I say… I simply love to color my hair in shades of red. I just feel it adds more oomph to my skin tone than my brown-toned locks do, which means I don’t look all that pale anymore. I usually tend to go for brighter, more popping shades of red. Check out my hair with Avon’s Advance Techniques Hair Color in 6.56 Light Mahogany Red. This time I chose to color my hair in a deeper shade of Mahogany, for the only reason that I already had this color at home so didn’t feel the need to go out and buy another box.

I prefer to use the L’Oréal Casting range of hair colors as they are ammonia-free unlike most colors available in the market. I am aware that there are a few other brands that do ammonia-free hair colors, but I haven’t yet given them a try. Maybe I will someday. But for today, I’ve got swatches and a review on the L’Oréal Casting Range.

L’Oréal Casting Creme Gloss Hair Color in Mahogany 550 – What’s in the box?

Before I review this product, here’s a swatch of what my hair looked like before I applied the color.

Hair Color – Before

As you can see, the color looks dull and faded and hey, check out those grey strands on display! A harsh reminder that I’m not getting any younger, add to that the stress I’ve been under the past few months, and that’s what I’m blessed with. And here’s where I move on to say that I’m grateful for hair color.

And here’s what my hair looks like after the application of L’Oréal Casting Creme Gloss Hair Color in Mahogany 550

The end result is a lovely deep red, a bit darker than I prefer, but it’s a color that I don’t mind for a change, and it covered all the grey – what more could I ask for! I have sported this shade of Mahogany in the past and do like it when I prefer to go a bit darker than otherwise. The consistency allows for an easy application with a non-drip formula. I used up all the color for my shoulder-length hair. If you’re hair is slightly longer, you can still get by, just about I’d say. But any longer than below your shoulder blades and you’ll need two boxes as one won’t suffice for an even and consistent application.

You can get your hands on the L’Oréal Casting range from drugstores like Boots and Superdrug.

Note: Before application of any color, please don’t forget to do an allergy test 48 hours prior to application.

Rating: 4.3/5
